So-Jeong Yoo

Born 1994 in Seoul, Korea. So-Jeong Yoo is a composer and sound artist who questions about the things that form human being and the world. Her artistic practice explores human being, including its aesthetics, social and political impact.

She expands the boundaries of art by combining experimental music, sound installation, and performance. Continuously she explores musical experimentation and creative approaches through her fusion of traditional instruments, electronic music and performance.

She began her musical journey with the Ajaeng, a traditional Korean instrument. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Composition from Kyung Hee University’s College of Music and completed Master’s degrees—in Composition and Electronic Composition—from Freiburg University of Music.

Her pieces have been premiered by renowned contemporary music ensembles, such as Ensemble Recherche, Ensemble Inverspace, Duo Intakt, New Music Group EON and Ensemble Morph. Her music and performances have been performed at festivals including Strasbourg le PSSST! Festival in France, Montepulciano Palazzo Ricci in Italy, Padua COM.PER.EL Project in Italy and Sound Effects Seoul in Korea, among manys others.

Currently located in Freiburg, Germany, she is finding her ‘subjectivity’ for sound and art.
